We have the 13 basic tracks recorded now. We'll get the final two keeper vocals and the horns and harmonies by the end of next week. Then it's time to mix.
I'm so loving the buoyantly live vibe of this record!

March 11, 2007
I just put up some rehearsal recordings which you can listen to in the Music section. We're going into the studio tomorrow to begin laying down the basic tracks. Very exciting!
Starting on another CD!
-
March 5, 2007
Simon Snaize (again the producer) has arrived from England. We're starting rehearsals tomorrow. We'll be working again with our Umlout partner and friend, engineer extraodinaire David Cragin. The primary players will include return collaborators Paul Groetzinger, Kevin Zoernig, Ben Wright, Coral Cadman, and Michael Grimes. I'm excited. One of the inspirations for this project is Astral Weeks. Wow. And probably as usual we'll head off once we get started in a completely different direction. Anyway, I feel blessed to get to make another record, and especially so with such a stellar cast. Yay!

January 29, 2007
I've been getting back to initiating, tending, and participating in groups where my invitation is to notice what's alive inside and speak from there. For me it's like creating a collective song.

Simon and I have pared an initial list of 31 new songs down to 15 finalists for inclusion on the cd we'll be starting in March. Those songs (rough acoustic versions are up in the MUSIC section under "new songs") are: High Flying, Prophet, The Prince, CEO, Take A Stand, Going Down, Tar Baby, Six Feet Under, Every Worldly Thing, Love Song, Flood Tide, My Church, Four Way Stop, Spirit's Son, and Stories.
Meanwhile Ginna Sloane and I have made final graphic choices. I'll send "Undertow" to Oasis next week for manufacture and should have copies available by the latter part of January!

Meanwhile Simon Snaize will be returning to Santa Fe in March to produce a more acoustically-based CD with me. Hopefully many of the same players will be involved again, and of course David Cragin will be recording and engineering with us down in Cerrillos at the studio of the wolves!

Just put up a new song called "Stories." It's about being there then - I mean, here now.
Mastering and a New Song
-
November 5, 2006
Cragin and I drove up to Boulder to master "Undertow" with Dom Maita at Airshow Mastering. While Dom mastered the last three records, we'd never had a chance to meet before. It was great to work with him in person. Now we're checking out the results of that session to make sure everything's the way we want it. Then there's just the graphics to complete before manufacture.
I put up a new song today in the Music section called "Easy Ride."

Cragin and I are going up to Airshow Mastering in Boulder next week to work with Dominick Maita there. That will conclude the musical part of "Undertow." Once we get the graphics in place, it's time for manufacture at Oasis.
I uploaded a new song today to the Music section. It's called Spirit's Son.

new songs
-
October 4, 2006
i recorded 10 new songs into the computer today. Soon i'll have an interface and a decent mic, but for now i'm just recording directly through the Imac's mic into Garage Band and then shunting the songs to Itunes. These are some of my latest, post-Undertow concoctions featuring my vocal and acoustic guitar. The mix leans too heavily in the guitar direction, but sadly i don't know how to avoid that.
This and That
-
October 2, 2006
Looks like the new cd indeed will be titled "Undertow." Ellen Goldberg, my artist/therapist friend who created the last two covers, is working on "Undertow" sketches.
Once I get the gear I've ordered (a computer interface and a mic), I'll start recording and uploading my new songs. I've written 25 since we made the choices for "Undertow."
Our new CD's en route!
